• About the SII Portal

The Study in India Portal (https://studyinindia.gov.in) is a one-stop digital platform created by the Government of India for international students. It simplifies the entire admission journey—from course selection and applications to visa processing.
Through the portal, students can apply for short-term, long-term, and degree programs at India’s prestigious Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs).

• Mandatory SII Registration for All Foreign Nationals

All international students planning to study in India must register on the SII Portal before applying for a Student Visa.
Upon registration, students receive a unique SII-ID, which is:

• Mandatory for all visa applications
• A digital reference for academic admission and visa processes

• New e-Student Visa System

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has introduced a streamlined e-Student Visa system, allowing students to apply for a visa online via the Indian Visa Portal:
https://indianvisaonline.gov.in
The SII-ID is required for this process, ensuring faster, more transparent, and smoother visa and enrolment procedures.

2. Register and create your SII student profile

• Important Notice

The SII registration and SII-ID are now mandatory for all international students applying for a student visa for India.
No visa application will be processed without prior SII registration.
